December Holiday Backgrounds by Celeste

If you are using Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer:

To grab one of the graphics, click on it with the right mouse button (or, if you are using a Mac, click on it and hold the mouse button down for a second or two). A menu will pop up and you can select Save this image as... to copy the graphic to your hard drive.

If you are using another browser:

Click on the graphic you want to download. This will load a new page containing that image only. You should then be able to choose a Save option from your browser’s menu.

If neither of these options works for you, select the link near the bottom of this page to visit Celeste’s Graphic Archive page, where you can download compressed archive packages of related graphics.

NOTE: All background tiles on this page are original - you won’t find them in any other graphic collection on the Web. You can preview any of these backgrounds on a full page with some sample text by clicking on the “Preview” link below the tile.

WARNING! Some background tile images on this page do not display well if you are viewing with 256 colors in Netscape Communicator v. 4.x (including stand-alone Navigator v. 4.x). Version 4.x Netscape browsers do not handle color the same way as previous versions when viewing in 8-bit (256-color) mode. The browser forces all image colors to the 216-color “Web safe” palette and will not dither gracefully by using additional colors available on the viewer's system. This can create unpredictable, ugly results with any image containing some colors that are not “Web safe.׎ The effect is very bad in grayscale images, which typically pick up undesirable blue or yellow fringing. This anomaly is especially noticeable on the Macintosh platform; it affects 8-bit Windows displays, but not to the same extent. The effect disappears if you view in 16-bit mode (thousands of colors) or better.
